In 2010, TD Bank Group (TD) added 240 stores through the acquisition of The South Financial Group, Inc. and the operations of three Florida banks purchased from the U.S. Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC). These acquisitions were an excellent opportunity for TD to expand in the deposit-rich Florida market. On December 21, 2010, TD announced the acquisition of Chrysler Financial creating a top 5 bank-owned dealer in North America. TD, through TD Waterhouse (UK), also further built its international presence in the online brokerage market with the acquisition of the UK customer base of E*TRADE Securities Limited (UK). TD also fully acquired Ross Smith Sousa Advisors Ltd., a privately-held, Calgary-based energy advisory firm, specializing in asset acquisitions and divestitures in the oil and gas sector.
